Happy Canada Day!

Today, you may want to reflect on the memory lane from where we were to where we are.

It is worth remembering that Canada became a country, the Dominion of Canada, in 1867, and every July 1 in Canada was called Dominion Day for more than a century.

In deciding a name for Canada in 1867, the “Dominion of Canada” was suggested by New Brunswick’s Premier, Sir Leonard Tilley.” History tells us that Tilley’s inspiration came from Psalm 72:8, which says, “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.”

According to the Christian Courier website, it was agreed that “the newly united country was to be under God. The founding Fathers agreed, as did the British Prime Minister and Queen Victoria, and so ‘dominion’ became the official designation of Canada. God is the one to have dominion from sea to sea. That was clearly understood by Sir Samuel Tilley and the other Fathers of Confederation in 1864. Additionally, Canada’s coat of arms (1921) referenced the Latin words a mari usque ad mare, which means “from sea to sea, from Psalm 72, perhaps to reflect Canada’s Christian origins and the Founders’ intention for it to be a Christian nation.”[1]

Happy Canada Day, folks!

  1. Thanks, Rehoboth, for the timely reminder. It really means a lot. And Canada shall be saved AGAIN! Amen ?

  2. It’s interesting to know how the country began, but sadly men are frustrating God’s dominion on this land.
His dominion will reign forever; back to our roots.

    Happy Canada Day Rehoboth Springs
